Update: Inmate Captured After Escape from Jail

An investigation into how Max Fernandez escaped from a jail in Irvine Friday is ongoing.

A 27-year-old inmate escaped from the James A. Musick Facility in Irvine, but he was captured Saturday, sheriff's officials said.

Max Edward Fernandez was confirmed missing during a security check at about 4 p.m. Friday, according to a department statement. The jail is at 13502 Musick Rd.

Fernandez was jailed for possession of stolen property and a narcotics violation. He has a criminal history of thefts, burglaries, narcotic violations, auto theft and resisting arrest, according to a police report from the department.

Sheriff's officials reported the escapee had been recaptured just before 3 p.m. Saturday, but details were not immediately available.
