UPDATED: Deputies Search for Dana Point Gunman in San Onofre Area

A man was shot and wounded today at a home in Dana Point, and Orange County sheriff's deputies spotted the victim's car in San Onofre, where they searched all day for the gunman.

Bloodhounds were brought in to assist in the search and resources were also deployed from the U.S. Marine base at Camp Pendleton, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and the San Diego County Sheriff's Department, said OCSD spokesman Lt. Jeff Hallock.

The search was called off by about 6 p.m. with the gunman still at large, according to the sheriff's department.

The shooting was at a house in the 32500 block of Crete Road and was reported about 10 a.m., Hallock said. The house is about one mile inland from Monarch Bay, off Crown Valley Parkway.

The male victim was shot in the hand and also suffered lacerations to his head, according to Hallock.

He was taken to a hospital for treatment, Hallock said.

The suspect had fled the scene in the victim's car.

"Deputies located a suspect and the car in the San Clemente area," Hallock continued. "A short pursuit took place which ended in the San Onofre area, and that is where deputies are now conducting a search to try and find the suspect's car."

Hallock said he didn't yet know what had sparked the gunfire, but it appeared the suspect and victim knew one another.

No other information about the suspected shooter was immediately available.
