An investigation was underway today into the accidental shooting in a Dana Point apartment of a woman who was struck in the head and wounded by a round accidentally discharged by a neighbor's gun, a sheriff's lieutenant said.

The shooting occurred around 10 p.m. in the 25000 block of Quail Run, said Orange County sheriff's Lt. Gary Strachan.

"Our preliminary information indicates it was an unintentional discharge and a neighbor was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries," Strachan said.

The victim is a woman who was shot when her neighbor's gun went off while he was cleaning it, an apartment manager told a news photographer at the scene.
