Crews Tackle Laguna Niguel Fire

Firefighters are in the process of putting out a garage fire on Paradise Cove.

Firefighters are tackling a garage fire currently threatening a Laguna Niguel home.

Crews expect to extinguish the blaze by 5:30 p.m., said Captain Marc Stone, spokesman for the Orange County Fire Authority.

The report of a garage fire on the 30 block of Paradise Cove came in just before 5 p.m., said Stone. Firefighters were quickly able to get a handle on the blaze, and there have been no injuries reported, he added.

The homeowner, who asked that her name not be used, told Patch she was cooking dinner while her children were doing homework upstairs. When they heard the smoke alarms go off, they called down to their mom, to see what she was burning.

The next thing they knew, black smoke came billowing from the air ducts. The husband raced toward the garage and saw smoke coming from under the garage door.

The husband-wife duo grabbed the children and dog and escaped through the backyard, then around the house.

The homeowner said it was a rental car that caught on fire.
