Child Falls from Second-Story Window in Laguna Niguel

A 2-year-old girl was found in the bushes on the 24400 block of Sunshine on Tuesday, and was taken to the hospital, according to authorities.

Orange County firefighters discovered a 2-year-old girl who had landed in some bushes at her home after she apparently fell from a two-story window on Tuesday in Laguna Niguel.

Firefighters were called to the scene on the 24400 block of Sunshine around 4:30 p.m. Upon arrival firefighters /paramedics found the child in the bushes located below the window.

The child was alert and crying, paramedics treated and transported her to Mission Hospital, said OCFA Capt. Marc Stone.

Additionally, sheriff’s deputies followed up at the hospital and are conducting an investigation, he said.

“The OCFA responds to several calls a year where children fall through windows. We recommend that child-proofing your home is very  important. Items such as beds, couches, or chairs near window openings can be very dangerous as children like to climb, jump, and push against window glass and screens. Help safeguard children by adding multiple barriers such as alarms, latches, and locks while periodically inspecting and maintaining them,” Stone said.

Under the the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996, hospital officials were not allowed to give out any information on the 2-year-old.
