A 2002 Nissan Altima's engine was engulfed in flames near the new library at the intersection of Crown Valley and Alicia parkways Tuesday morning, according to Orange County Fire Authority officials.
OCFA units were dispatched to the scene around 10:18 a.m., and by 11 a.m., had the situation under control, officials said.
The female driver of the car reported while driving, she heard "popping, saw smoke and smelled fuel," said Capt. Marc Stone.
"By the time firefighters arrived, the car's engine was completely engulfed," Stone said. "The captain put the damages around $3,000."
The driver was not injured and there was no damage to the passenger side of the car. The woman was the only person in the car, he added.
