Fiddler on the Roof

I am not sure how you say WOW! in Yiddish but if I could I would be saying it here and now. Fiddler on the Roof is one of my favorite plays and as such is one I am very conerned about when I go to see a performance, especially one at the "local" level.

Fiddler is playing at Saddleback's McKinney Theatre and as such you might expect it to be a good but amaturish performance. This is not the case. From the opening scene the audience is taken on a fast but telling story of a family and townspeoples' lives in Anatevka Russia. There is joy, sorrow, intrigue and a ghost all brought to life by a terrifc casts.

The audience is captured by the fabulous performance of "Tradition" started by John Huntington's robust protrayal of Tevye and enhanced by the entire cast.
Lilly Mettler, Golde, has a voice that is strong, sweet and complete. Her performance as the long suffering wife finds that after 25 years she does, in fact, love him. That song is one of the best in the show in terms of sound and message.
The entire cast rewards everyone throughout the show with terrific sounds, singing, dancing and marvelous acting. The scenery is just right as is the lighting so as to enhance the viewing experience.

The show runs through July 28th. The theater is perfect for this show, especially the way it is staged and performed. Find time to see this wonderful, wonderful musical.
