BLOG: The Women of Lockerbie

A review of the play "The Women of Lockerbie."

Let me start by saying that I have done several hundred plays over the years both in school, community playhouses and professional theatre as both performer and director.

My wife and I love to go to theater, especially the local playhouses. We'll see almost anything.

We really find the Saddleback College Theatre Arts group one of the best values around. They have two theatres, one small 3/4 round setting and another medium-sized conventional theatre.

Tonight's fare was in the smaller house. I knew we had tickets for tonight but didn't know what the show going to be. When my wife told me the name and gave me a brief summary I was not enthused at all. Neither was she but we went anyway.

We were going to see a show about women washing clothes after the downing of the Pan-Am flight in Lockerbie. Let me say here and now it was one of my best theatre experiences in a long, long time.

The story is amazing. The actors all do a fine job. The blocking is crisp and meaningful. The pick-up of cues was very good with no noticeable lags. Each character was well defined and well represented by the player.

Shirley Eramo holds her character and accent especially well throughout this tough little show. Thomas Goss holds his own well with an extremely tough role that requires a show of strength even when breaking down. My hat is off to the director for what she taught her cast.

Do yourself a favor between now and April 7th, get yourself a ticket and sit and watch and listen to an incredible story about the women of Lockerbie. Oh, and try to keep a dry eye. I could not.
