BLOG: Media Shouldn't Report Bomb-Making Instructions

Why the rush to show how to build the next Boston bomb?

We all watched with appropriate horror what happened in Boston on Patriots Day. Years ago, my office was across the bridge from Copley Plaza and Boylston Street, so I know where it took place. We all know that there are crazy people around who will do crazy things. We all know that we can't totally protect ourselves from everything, all the time, everywhere. As the saying goes "Poop happens."

But, are we insane?

What I am referring to is our media going out of its way to tell us about the bomb! It seems everyone whats us all to know how we too can build our own little explosive device. "Hey, Tommy, let's build a bomb and blow up Richard!" What's a few pressure cookers cost today? Are we nuts? Shouldn't we be making it a bit more difficult for the next Thomas A Idiot to figure out how to blow you up?

By the way, I understand that the Senate is ready to introduce a bill to have background checks on anyone trying purchase more the=an one pressure cooker and to restrict the size of the cooker. Yes, I digress! It infuriates me to see all of these "experts" explaining the ball bearings, screws, nails etc. that goes into a body devastating bomb.

Here's my advice to them: Shut up about that! Report the news! help find the culprit! But quit telling the next maniac how easy it is to build the next bomb! Believe me, they don't need the help!
