Elks Ladies Strut the Runway to Raise Over $4,200 for Charity

The sounds of Dixieland music emanated from the Mission Viejo / Saddleback Valley Elks Lodge (“Elks Lodge”) this past week. The Elks Lodge main hall was decorated in a "Mardi Gras" theme with plenty of boa's, beads, and bright table covers of green, gold and purple. The colorful trappings provided the atmosphere for the Elks Ladies Club's 39th annual fashion show starring fourteen (14) Elk ladies modeling beautiful clothing from local merchants. Featured in this year's show were the latest fashions from Damon's & Drapers, Cache, Spring, Chico's, and Bella Terra Woman. The stars of the show were models: Carol Bryan, Judy Longi, Brenda Rhenke, Debbie Lamb, Basia Bills, Linda Marquis, Sandy Jacobs, Laura Lumley, Gloria LeCouvre, Nadine Wardwell, Barbara King, Georgine Pickering, Fran Ponto and Kyra Ytzen from the communities of Lake Forest, Laguna Hills, Laguna Niguel, Mission Viejo, Rancho Santa Margarita and Laguna Woods.

This year's sold-out event was run by ladies' club president Mary Ann Alvarez and raised over $4,200 for Elk's charities. Raffles were organized by Rosemary Miller and Laura Lumley. New Orleans's jazzy and blues runway music was provided by Andy Costello, Lodge Organist. The one hundred eighty (180) guests enjoyed a luncheon cooked by volunteer chefs, Dennis Boelts, Gregg Morgan and Howard Sargent. The luncheon was served by the Lacrosse team from Laguna Hills high school. Elk Past Presidents decked-out in tuxedos assisted as waiters and model escorts for the fashion show party. Ladies president Alvarez thanked all for attending and said of the event, "Our ladies run four major events for the Elks Lodge every year, but the fashion show is our biggest fundraising effort. The money we raise helps the Lodge programs for veterans, handicapped children, scouting, and numerous other Elks supported charities."
