Janet Jackson Slims Down—Diet or Something Else?

Th songbird says she is on a serious diet regime through Nutrisystem, but do you believe it? A local registered dietitian and a talent expert weigh in.

Janet Jackson has lost weight, breaking news right?

Why is it every time a celebrity loses weight (or shows a 'baby bump') it makes the national news and is the biggest thing since sliced bread?

She says she lost her weight on Nutrisystem, a diet that delivers meals right to your door. These are meals that are not only healthy for you but also tailored just for you, according to the company.

She tweeted on Friday that "Nutrisystem really works." Probably having a personal trainer at her disposal 24-7 doesn't hurt either.

Jackson has yet to reveal how much weight she has actually lost because she “doesn’t want to focus on the numbers but staying healthy instead.”

In December, the diet company said she lost 10 pounds in about one month.

As for her new look, she does look great—super slim, taut and oh, so toned. Can just do that?

Of course, this isn’t the first time she has transformed herself, she did that back in 2011. In her tell-all book, True You, she called herself an "emotional eater with serious body image issues."

But these days, the 45-year-old songstress has a new strategy to staying slim … in the form of the Nutrisystem diet it seems.

Laguna Niguel Registered Dietitian Kelly Kehlet added, "I do believe that she lost it using Nutrisystem. Diets like that can be very effective in the short term, because they are so structured and are portion controlled. The problem with them is that they don't always adequately address the issues behind overeating. If the person does not learn what causes them to use food to cope, and how to choose and prepare healthy foods in appropriate portions, they frequently regain the weight once they are off the diet."

Alice Kim Cowell, president of a talent agency and local resident, said in terms of Jackson's weight loss, "It's hard to say...but I would imagine that Janet Jackson was closely monitored with personalized coaches throughout the process, so to get similar results you would need to be self-disciplined. I believe that portion control, balanced diet and regular exercise is key to a lifestyle change and healthy weight maintenance."

What about you, do you attribute Jackson's new killer bod to the diet plan and door-to-door delivered meals or did she lose the weight another way?

I doubt she got taut and toned with Nutrisystem...

Doesn't take a genius to know that both diet AND exercise are needed to lose weight. And most regular people can't afford the packaged meal plans these diets require you to purchase.

I'd say lipo or gastric bypass?
Debbie L. Sklar (Editor) April 12, 2012 at 11:42 PM
@Charles: Prob right on.
Debbie L. Sklar (Editor) April 12, 2012 at 11:43 PM
@Kelly: I think Charles might be right.

Maybe she really did lose it on this diet? She looks great either way.
John Daker April 13, 2012 at 05:13 AM
You don't get gastric bypass to loose 20 or 30 pounds idiots.

I believe NutriSystem really works. And I feel that she was very disciplined about this.

How ridiculous. I know for a fact that Janet lost the weight exactly as she says she did. Nutrisystem. It works. Get On It and find out for yourself. Low G.I. works. Nutrisystem is less expensive than grocery stores, meal planning time and shopping. Kathy Ireland

"has yet to reveal how much weight she has lost"....ITS NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS! It doesn't matter how she lost it, I bet all of you that are dissecting her are overweight yourself! Mind your OWN business and get a life.

How sad, these comments are exactly why girls and women have so many self esteem issues. Worry about your own life instead of others. Look in the mirror at yourself...I bet you all could use some "fixin up". Who are you to say how she did or did not do something? Your comments show that you are miserable yourself and need to down talk others to make yourself feel better. Shame on you judgemental people.

@Kelly, I agree totally, it's no ones business but Janets. I think we all would be upset if people were asking us personal questions. I'm glad she is not telling, it really doesn't matter, all that matters is he is healthier now then before.

@Kathy:Are you the real Kathy Ireland?
Debbie L. Sklar (Editor) April 13, 2012 at 09:20 PM
@Twitter: many have said Nutrisystem works as does Weight Watchers.
Debbie L. Sklar (Editor) April 13, 2012 at 09:20 PM
@Kelly: Good point.
Debbie L. Sklar (Editor) April 13, 2012 at 09:21 PM
@Beautiful: I think Janet looks great.
Debbie L. Sklar (Editor) April 13, 2012 at 09:21 PM
@Alison: Maybe she well tell as she loses more weight? Jennifer Hudson has.

who cares, it was probably a personal trainer following her around all day and night
Ryan Osman April 14, 2012 at 09:02 PM
Janet has always been very dedicated when it comes to getting into shape, it makes me laugh that people still don't want to admit that she has never had lipo or any surgery to help her lose weight. You can see pictures of Janet going jogging in Germany even while on tour, lipo will not leave you with abs, and biceps like Janet's either. Whether she uses NutriSystem, well her chef is a part of NutriSystem too, so he probably makes her the meals fresh.

@Ryan: OK let's give her the benefit of the doubt!
stuart branson April 14, 2012 at 11:20 PM
Doubt it was from meals delivered at home.
sharon whittaker April 15, 2012 at 06:32 PM
I'd have to agree with Stuart, celebrities have someone at their disposal all the time helping them to lose weight one way or another.
MR April 16, 2012 at 03:49 PM
Yes Janet has her own personal trainer, but you have to use the product to show that it works. I've never known Janet to promote anything that she doesn't believe in or try herself. Good eating habits along with exercise for ANYONE will show results. Janet has said that she hates to workout...so I applaud JJ for "Getting on it!" She looks good and she seems happy with her results. We should congratulate instead of all this negative feedback. It's not a bad thing for someone of Janet's stature to teach and show others how to help themselves if they really want to help themselves. Good job JJ...you look so good!

wish I could afford a personal trainer
lashell April 23, 2012 at 04:04 AM
I'm proud of Janet! So to all the haters get on the band wagon.
