Happy 40th Egg McMuffin, Locals Still Lovin' It

The breakfast sandwich is celebrating a milestone and residents, along with a local franchise owner, couldn't be happier.

After 40 years, McDonald’s Egg McMuffin can still fit into its original wrapper.

Unlike some, who hit their 40s and can’t squeeze into their jeans from high school, the cultural icon is still looking good and locals can't get enough.

Made with fresh cracked USDA Grade A eggs, the Egg McMuffin is McDonald’s signature breakfast sandwich and uses the same quality ingredients it did 40 years ago.

Locally, said : "From its creation in 1972 and through today, our beloved Egg McMuffin has remained a customer favorite. At only 300 calories and made with fresh cracked eggs every morning, this is one great-tasting breakfast option that will continue to delight the palates of our customers for years to come."

Nibeel said his own favorite breakfast is an Egg McMuffin and a cup of coffee.

Others are equally attached to the breakfast staple that can easily be made at home thanks to this YouTube.

“To me, there’s not a better breakfast around for the value,” said Steven Wilkerson, who likes to splurge on the weekends.

And Patch’s contributing photographer, Barton Mac Leod, eats at Nibeel's location every day. He brings his newspaper, orders a strong cup of coffee, and often treats himself to an Egg McMuffin.

“Sometimes, I ride my bike there for the exercise,” he said. “I like their coffee and it’s just enough, and for $1 how can you go wrong? The Egg McMuffin is a good way to start off the day when I have a lot of running around to do and don’t have time to cook breakfast at home. Sometimes, they even have a two- for-one special.”

Even the younger set enjoys the breakfast sandwich like Jake Hansen, 10, who was enjoying an Egg McMuffin recently with his mom, Susan.

"I like the egg because it's round," he said. ..."And the ham is good."

Herb Peterson, a McDonald’s franchisee, created the Egg McMuffin in 1972 because he wanted a breakfast offering served before 11 am. And it hasn’t change much over the years either.

“The Egg McMuffin hasn’t changed much in 40 years. In fact, it can still fit into its original wrapper at just 300 calories,” says David Martinelli, McDonald’s USA Pacific Sierra Region marketing manager. “The classic sandwich still includes a freshly toasted English muffin, a slice of lean Canadian bacon, a fresh cracked egg, and a slice of melted American cheese, just like it did 40 years ago.”
