Gracie Hangs Out with Laguna Niguel Band Sweet Mojo

The local band gives back to the community by playing at fundraisers for Relay for Life and juvenile diabetes research.

This week I had the chance to meet and interview a local band named Sweet Mojo. They are all local high school students who work very hard to reach their goals.

I got to sit in on a band rehearsal and talk to band members Patrick Antonius, Andrew Wilson, Adam Cease, Chris Doering, Kristine Slezacek and lead singer Robbie Crebar.

Patrick, Andrew, Robbie and Adam met a few years ago in guitar class.  Their guitar teacher is Lysle Cease (Adam's dad), who is also their manager.

It turns out that Lysle is a member of the Matt Kenney Band, another one of my favorite bands! Kristina, the newest member of their band, is their drummer, and Chris is the keyboardist.

Chris is a student of Martin Gerschwitz, former keyboardist for Iron Butterfly.  I was really impressed by how hard they work rehearsing, performing and keeping up with school.

The band writes some of their own music as a group and also does cover songs. They said they are influenced by Green Day, Blink-182, Train and Bruno Mars.

I have seen them play a few times at different events and a battle of the bands. They really sound great and get the audience rocking. I asked them if they get nervous before they preform. Adam said they used to, but not so much any more.

All of the band members are thankful for the support of their parents, who are cheering them on at every show. They all say they want to continue playing music and see how far they can go with it. Their next  performances will be at Surf City Nights, Aug. 30 in Huntington Beach,  and Children's Day, Sept. 17, in the San Fernando Valley.

The band has also given back to the community by playing at fundraisers for Relay for Life and juvenile diabetes research.

Sweet Mojo is a great example of kids in our community who are following their dreams. They inspire me to keep working hard to reach my goals.  I know that we will be hearing a lot a great things in the future from Robbie, Patrick, Adam, Andrew,Chris and Kristina in whatever they do.
