Olympic Gold Medalist Hosts Free Movie Night- Margot Ferron

 Two-time, Olympic gold medalist and former captain of the US Women’s Soccer team, Julie Foudy is hosting a free pizza and movie night at Norman Murray Community Center, 24932 Veterans Way, Mission Viejo, CA 92691 on Wed., July 10 from 6-8 pm.

“Starting at the Finish Line-The Coach Buehler Story” is a documentary about Duke University’s, Olympic track coach, Al Buehler who touched the lives of thousands of athletes.  Some of the athletes are interviewed in the film- Carl Lewis, Jackie Joyner-Kersee, John Carlos, Shane Battier and Grant Hill. 

Buehler was active with US Olympic program and served as coach or manager 1972, 1984 and 1988 Olympic Games.  He is the chairman of the Health, Physical Education and Recreation department at Duke University in NC and teaches a freshman seminar on the history of American sports.

“For me, Al is the best example of a teacher-coach in intercollegiate sports,” said Coach Krzyzewski (Coach K), Duke’s, four-time NCAA Coach and Olympic Coach.   The documentary is narrated by Grant Hill, professional basketball player, the 1994 ACC Player of the Year and NBA Rookie of the Year.

After the film Julie Foudy will moderate a 30-minute discussion on team building and leadership for all ages.  Producer-Director Amy Unell will also be on hand.

Foudy attended Mission Viejo High School where she was a two-time, first team, All-American.  For three straight years (1987-1989), she was Player of the Year for Southern California and the Los Angeles Times' soccer player of the decade.

The Julie Foudy Soccer Camp for Girls is returning to Mission Viejo in July, 2013  for their 18th year.   Camp is 9 am-3 pm and it is highlighted by some of the most successful women soccer players and coaches ever to be involved the women's game.
