Spring break will soon be upon us. Rain will fall and flowers will blossom. Families will be taking trips to see Grandma and singles will board flights to Vegas. With this in mind, I thought I would offer a simple travel request. Take a bath.
I know this might sound silly but as a frequent flyer I've watched the devolution of not only appropriate public attire but also of personal hygeine. I realize long gone our the days of dressing up to fly. I remember my first flight from Los Angeles to Dallas in 1970. My mother had me in a blue blazer when we boarded our flight on American Airlines. Now I'm in the cattle call with kids and young adults in sweats and pajamas shuffling aboard Southwest Airlines.
I've long abandoned my interest in what you are wearing so long as I don't have to see anything best kept hidden. But my desire to sit next to someone who can fit between the armrests and used soap and water has not waned. I've even recruited middle seaters from the last to board based on personal hygeine.

My wife and I recently took a morning flight where someone in line smelled so bad no one would stand within five feet of them. I had a young lady sit next to us on the plane and it was clear she did not bathe that morning.
Perhaps people are thinking they will take a shower when they reach their destination or they took a bath the day before. However, flights are close quarter events with recirculating air. We sit shoulder to shoulder as we are propelled through the sky. So as you catch your flight to destinations yet unknown please remember; your smells are not your own.
