The Great Pumpkin Paint Up – Part 2

Missed our Pumpkin Paint Up event at Zoomars on October 12th?  You missed a fun time!  People coming to paint their pumpkins put on a layer of paint then went and enjoyed Zoomars for a while, came back and did another layer, then went out to play again.  I think the adults had even more fun than the kids in making their creations!  So many people had a blast that we were asked to come again and we will be back at Zoomars this Saturday and Sunday, October 19th and 20th.  Our pumpkins are durable foam pumpkins that you can keep forever.  The price is $15 each and includes a free entrance into Zoomars if you just let them know you are there for the Relay for Life fundraiser.  (While entrance into Zoomars is free, there is still a small charge to ride the ponies or train, pan for gold, and feed the animals.)  Zoomars also has real pumpkins of all sizes (check the bottom for the price) if you are looking to do a more traditional pumpkin carving at home.  Although, our foam pumpkins can be carved as well, can you really call it Halloween without at least one batch of homemade roasted pumpkin seeds?!?

For more information, you can see my blog from last week or visit our website at www.PumpkinPaintup.com.  The proceeds from this event will go towards our 2014 San Juan Capistrano Relay for Life.  The money we raise is used by the American Cancer Society to help researchers fight cancer (ACS is the largest non-governmental, not-for-profit organization in the US), their educational materials help teach people ways to stay healthy and hopefully avoid cancer or gives them an excellent place for research should you or a loved one be diagnosed, and they fund programs to help members of our community with everyday difficulties when battling cancer such as needing rides to and from treatments.  Please mark your calendars for June 28, 2014 and plan to join us at our 11th Annual Relay.  If you want to keep up-to-date on all the events leading up to our 2014 Relay, you can start/join a team at our website at www.RelayForLife.org/SanJuanCapistranoCA.  If you have not yet attended one of our events, it is a weekend full of live music, good food and fun activities for the whole family.

If you are looking for a way to introduce your kids into charity work, this would be a great way to ease them in.  My niece had the time of her life making a scary jack o’lantern and one themed after her soccer team mascot.  She also spent quite a bit of time playing in the Zoomars corn bin. (Think of a ball pit with dried corn instead of balls.)  I think if Zoomars sold popcorn, they would make a mint because I know I was not the only adult who had a sudden craving for popcorn as we buried our kids under a mound of corn.

If you are planning to come this weekend, I have two recommendations for you

     1) plan on being there for a while so that the kids can enjoy Zoomars while their paint is drying

     2)  have the kids wear clothes you do not mind getting paint on as these paints are professional grade and are NOT washable.  Although aprons are available, it is very easy to still spill so that you conveniently miss the apron entirely!
