WANTED: Authorities Seeking Person of Interest in Laguna Niguel Fatal Hit and Run

The registered owner of the Nissan involved in the Carlos Salas incident, Urbano Carrasco Martinez, also known as Mario Urbano Carrasco Martinez is being sought in the Sept 7. accident.

Police have released the name of the person, Urbano Carrasco Martinez, 29, who they say was involved in the alleged hit and run fatal accident of Carlos Salas earlier this month.

Just before 4 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 7, Orange County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a man down in the intersection of Golden Lantern and Marina Hills.

Police say  20, of Laguna Niguel, was riding a skateboard near the intersection and was struck by a black 1998 Nissan Maxima that was travelling southbound on Golden Lantern.

Salas was struck from behind and dragged approximately 25-30 feet across the intersection. The car continued southbound on Golden Lantern and was later found unoccupied on Sea Glen in Laguna Niguel. Salas later died at Mission Hospital from injuries sustained in the collision.

The registered owner of the Nissan involved in the incident is Urbano Carrasco Martinez, also known as Mario Urbano Carrasco Martinez, 29, of Laguna Niguel. Martinez has not returned home and has not shown up to work since the collision, authorities report.

A witness that was near the scene of the collision when it occurred described the driver of the Nissan as a Hispanic man, mid 20s with clean cut hair. Martinez is described as a man, Hispanic, 25-30 years old, 5,' 2", 160 pounds with dark clean cut hair and brown eyes.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Department would like to speak with Martinez regarding the involvement of his car in this collision. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Martinez is asked to contact the Orange County Sheriff’s Traffic Bureau at 949-425-1860. An autopsy was completed on Salas earlier this week, and his memorial service was held privately for friends, and family on Sept. 14.
