When Your Home Isn’t Selling

Offers haven’t been coming in, and  you have a hard decision before you. Do you take your house off the market, or do you continue to wait? These four simple tips might make this decision a little easier.

Tip 1 Do you need to sell it? If so, there is no need to pull it from the market. The season may be typically slow. Though there are fewer buyers in the winter months, they continue to buy. Some even think the slower seasons are the best months to buy, because there is less competition. Instead of dropping all plans to sell your house, consider lowering the price.

Tip 2 Fix it up. When selling a home, you have to look at it from the buyer’s perspective. The minute they drive up to a home that is in dire need of repair or that has a long list of must-do fixes, they see a lot of work down the road. If you think it’s a waste of time to fix up a home you will be moving out of soon, think again. Would-be buyers that see nothing but work ahead might just move to the next house that needs less repair.

Tip 3 Consider incentives. Yes, you can sweeten the pot by offering incentives to serious buyers. Speak with a real estate agent about what incentives might work best in the current market.

Tip 4 Stage your home. Getting your home pretty is not the same as staging your home. Daily maintenance and repairs are necessary while you’re living there and to attract buyers. Staging, on the other hand, involves using experts to make your home showroom-ready. Serious sellers will consider a professional home stager.
