Sweet Treats In Laguna Niguel

I don't eat wheat or sugar very often but when I do I want to make it special. I decided that Christmas day would be a day to indulge so I set off to find the best sweet treats in Laguna Niguel.

First stop was Cinderella Cakes on La Paz between Sprouts and CVS. From their very nice selection I choose a decadent chocolate cupcake topped with a cloud of light, sweet buttercream chocolate frosting and chocolate sprinkles. The cake was moist and flavorful and the mound of frosting was just right.

Then I went on to Sugar Pies Bakery on Moulton Pkwy between Aliso Creek Road and Rancho Niguel Road. I'd often passed this shop on my way home from grocery shopping always thinking I couldn't stop because I had frozen items in the car. The people at Sugar Pies were so nice. The selection was small but it was Christmas Eve after all. I picked up their triple chocolate brownies. They were rich and filled with chocolate bits. My friends and I first ate them plain and they were delicious but then after the sugar high kicked in we whipped up a peppermint buttercream and frosted the remaining ones.

My final stop was the Stack Bistro on Niguel Road, near Club House Drive. I pressed through the crowd to get to the counter. Jackpot. The pistachio cake was so flavorful and the cream so lightly sweet, the lemon tart was a perfect blend of tartness and sweetness, and the chocolate mousse covered brownie was intense and delicious but for me it was the coconut almond meringue that made my holiday bright. I love meringue and these cookies were done to perfection, crisp and light on the outside and in the center, chewy and nutty. I'll be dreaming about those for a while.

My Christmas day was very sweet, even sweeter because I found it all here in Laguna Niguel.
