Chinese New Year falls on Jan. 23 this year. So there's still time to collect together certain foods to ring in the new year with symbols of prosperity and luck.

Here are a few ingredients to consider serving on Chinese New Year:

Long-grain rice - represents long life
Pineapple - brings prosperity energy
Tangerines - attract luck
Pomegranates - expand the family by bringing children
Fish - eaten to bring abundance
Green onions - to increase intelligence
Oranges - to add to the families wealth
Peaches - to have longevity and also beauty
Oysters - to create a prosperous business year

Serve all these ingredients and you'll have quite a buffet.
