Ocean Institute Activities Range from Halloween Tidepool Terrors to Million Dollar-Home Raffle

The Ocean Institute keep busy all year. Autumn is no different; check out these events.

There’s never a dull moment at the Ocean Institute.  Want to see blue whales?  There’s a chance. Want to win a dream home in Laguna Beach or
one million dollars? There’ a chance.

Of course, there’s always the certainty of learning opportunities at the Ocean Institute for children and adults through public programs and school programs.  And, there's Thursday and Friday afternoon tours of the facility.  After 35 years, the Ocean Institute continues to be a go-to place for fun and learning in the community for individuals and schools.

Here’s what’s happening at the Ocean Institute:

1.  8th Annual Laguna Beach Million Dollar Home Raffle.  This is the major fundraiser for the Ocean Institute, which helps fund the programs attended by thousands of school children throughout Orange County.  Local community business partners from all over help say thank you with perks to raffle ticket
buyers for their support of the Ocean Institute. The deadline to enter is midnight Oct. 18 (949-542-3600).

2.  Halloween isn’t far off.  Tidepool Terrors will be held Oct. 28.  It’s the fun trick-or treat event held throughout the Ocean Institute.  Ready
for a scary story read by a pirate ghost?  Or make a creepy critter craft.

3.  Marine Mammal Cruises.  The sightings of blue whales have been
fantastic this year.  Check out the on-going Sunday 2.5 hour cruises.  

4.  If you haven’t visited the Ocean Institute, a behind-the-scenes tour is a fun way to learn all about the Institute.  The one-hour tours are held at 3:30 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays.  Cost is $2 for non-members.  No reservations are required.

5. Volunteer at the Ocean Institute.  It’s a great way to learn all about the Institute, help the non-profit and give back to the community.  Find out more about the varied opportunities (husbandry, special events, visitor services, administration and more) on the website or at (949- 496-2274).
