Tastes of Greece Forges Ahead, Unleashed by Petco Will Have Self-Serve, and a New Bike Store

Laguna Niguel Biz Briefs this week tracks progress of several projects around town.

Construction at one of the city's favorite places to dine is moving along after a few hiccups, while a new pet store has started framing and has set a tentative opening date. In addition, Laguna Niguel Patch has learned that a new bike shop is coming to Dana Point in this week's L.N. Biz Briefs.

Unleashed by Petco

Dirty dogs will have a new place to get spruced up when opens in July. According to Tim Wicker, construction manager for Petco, the new store at 27281 La Paz Road, Suite D, is tentatively scheduled to open July 9. Construction began on the renovations of the 5,200 square foot store that was once Euro Day Spa.

"Right now we are working in the framing and in the next day or so we will be installing the sheet rock and scheduling the fixture for June 25," Wicker said. "If all goes well with inspections, and we aren't anticipating any problems, we could open on July 9."

He said the store will stock everything from pet foods to accessories. However, the store will not sell animals, he said.

"This store will also have a self-serve wash for dog owners," Wicker said. "Not all unleashed stores have self-serve washes, but this store is big enough and will have two tubs."

More Space at Tastes of Greece

Renovations and construction continue at at 30012 Crown Valley Pkwy., according to owner Elizabeth Gaitanis. She and her husband took over the former flower shop last month and are working hard to get the new digs open by the end of May.

"As our project continues, but taking longer than expected, I decided to include our friends and customers in our excitement by updating through email and the Tastes of Greece Facebook page. My first update was on April 25, notifying that our original deadline was April 30 but with the delays, we are assuming 18 more days."

To date, she said they have completed all "behind the scenes" electrical and plumbing.

"We've been inspected by the appropriate officials, and we are dry walling.  Once this step is completed and inspected, we continue to ceiling and flooring of the new unit, which will lead to 'knocking down the wall.' "

Another Bike Shop in Dana Point

A new bike shop called Bike Religion will take up space in the former home of Revo Cycles at 34150 Pacific Coast Hwy. in Dana Point. This will be the third Orange County location and a soft opening is scheduled June 1.

The 4,700-square-foot store will allow Bike Religion to expand beyond its current main focus of high-end road and tri bikes and accessories. There will be mountain bikes and a café; however the café will not be open in time for the June 1 date.

Bike Religion was founded in 2007 and opened with a 200-square-foot showroom on the campus at the UC Irvine, where it continues to do a steady business in cruisers, city, and BMX bikes from the Schwinn and GT. A second store in Newport Beach opened a year later and sells tri-and road bikes from Cannondale, Scott, Cervélo and Felt.
