Ralphs Recalls Spinach with Possible Salmonella Contamination

Stores in Laguna Niguel and Dana Point carry the brand, be sure to return it for a full refund if you have a bag with the UPC number listed below.

Calling alll spinach eaters: Private Selections Organic Baby Spinach in a 5-ounce package is being recalled due to possible salmonella contamination.

The product, which is sold at Ralph stores in Laguna Niguel and Dana Point has UPC number 0-11110-91128-5 and a best by date of 5-25-12.

Salmonella was detected during a random U.S. Department of Agriculture inspection, according to Food Safety News.

Center for Disease Control and Prevention defines salmonella as: "Salmonellosis is an infection with bacteria called Salmonella. Most persons infected with Salmonella develop diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps 12 to 72 hours after infection. The illness usually lasts 4 to 7 days, and most persons recover without treatment. However, in some persons, the diarrhea may be so severe that the patient needs to be hospitalized."
