Laguna Niguel Population Up Slightly
The U.S. Census Bureau has released its stats for California. Laguna Niguel has more Hispanics since the last Census report, in 2000.
Judging by the increase in traffic on our streets in Laguna Niguel, it's not surprising that the city's population has increased since the 2000 Census. However, it is a small percentage—less than 2 percent. The number of Hispanics in the city has also increased.
The 2010 population was 62,979; in 2000 it was 61,891, or a growth of 1.8 percent.
According to City Manager Tim Casey, "So much for the process that the state uses to estimate population growth from year to year, because right now they have us at 67,666.

"If we are growing less than we thought, that may be a reflection of changing household demographics and household size, because we certainly have more housing units on the ground than we did in 2010."
The U.S. Census Bureau today released more detailed 2010 Census population totals and demographic characteristics to the governor and leadership of the California Legislature. These data provide the first look at population counts for small areas and race, Hispanic origin, voting age and housing unit data released from the 2010 Census.

California's population rose 10 percent from April 2000 to April 2010, according to the new census figures. The population count for the state in 2000 was 33.9 million residents, and in 2010 it was 37.2 million
The 2010 population in the county of Orange was 3,010,232, an increase of 5.8 percent since 2000, according to the Census.
