Gas Prices Still Creeping Up

But they're lower than a year ago.

Gas prices continued their upward creep in Orange County over the last week, rising 1.9 cents to an average of $3.74 per gallon of self-serve regular, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.

Monday's price was the highest since Nov. 29, although still 2.3 cents less than a year ago.

The Orange County average has risen 30 times in the past 35 days, increasing 19 cents over that span, including seven-tenths of a cent on Sunday.

In neighboring L.A. County, the average price of gasoline rose three-tenths of a cent Monday to $3.769. There, the average price has risen 25 of the past 27 days and 29 of the past 32, including eight-tenths of a cent each of the past two days.

The Los Angeles County average price is the second highest in the state, trailing only San Luis Obispo County, which averages $3.785. The lowest average price was $3.507 in Butte County, north of Sacramento.

You see. The government hoodwinks you by claiming inflation is in check. But look at the rate of increase in fuel prices over the last few years. $3.75 is the NEW NORMAL. Soon $4.25 will be the NEW NORMAL. Then $5.00. When gas prices go up the State and Feds collect more in taxes. So it's in their best interests that gas prices rise. And look at the price of food (been in the stores lately) and the price of medical care (seen the price of your premiums continue to rise higher and higher?) So when they tell you that inflation is under control they are lying. I recall under Bush when I could buy a gallon of gas for $2.17. THOSE DAYS ARE LONG, LONG GONE!

But lets lets vote for Obama and the democrats huh. With those great enviromental policies on energy. Do you dems and obama, and dems understand. That is why gas has doubled. Obama wants you to pay even more along with Dems house and gov in this state.

Actually, it is not Obama and the "dems" that are raising gas prices (just like Bush did not raise prices during his term). The oil companies are the ones raising gas prices, just like it is the grocers who are raising grocery prices, just like it is the clothing retailers who raise the price of clothes. The reasons for these increases are varied. As for environmental protection, the air we breathe in California is much cleaner today than it was in 1975-80. There are controls on the density of construction projects to ensure we are allowing for parking, traffic, waste disposal, etc. While I certainly do not advocate for more government regulation in California, I think we all need to remember why these protections were originally put in place. They are helping to improve our quality of life.

[from Bloomberg.com news] Watch for gas prices to spike next week as Valero shuts down its Wilmington refinery for 10 days for repairs. Chevron and Phillips 66 also have shutdowns at their Calif plants, too. Inventories are lower throughout the state.
