Cinépolis Hoping to Be Open By End of May

Construction is moving along at the new luxury theater at Ocean Ranch Plaza, according to the builder.

Construction at the new Cinépolis Luxury Theaters at Ocean Ranch Plaza is shaping up and the theaters could be open for business in late May.

According to Greg McFaul, superintendent with Swinterton Builders, the theater which was once an Edwards, had to be completely demolished inside from top to bottom.

"We pretty much knocked everything down and started from scratch," he said. "We're hoping to be open around Memorial Day."

In addition to leather chairs, gourmet food, wine and beer, McFaul said there will be a "full kitchen."

"That will be one of the last things that we start working on but food will be made right here," he said.

In terms of beer and wine, there will be a two-drink minimum for those move-goers seated in the auditorium that are 21 and up, just like it does at its other theaters in San Diego.

The Latin American theater chain, took over the site Oct. 1, replacing the Edwards theaters that anchored the center for 20 years.

Laguna Niguel will be the company's third theater in Southern California, following Del Mar and La Costa.

Cinépolis will screen new movies in seven auditoriums that feature state-of-the-art digital equipment, HD, 3D and Surround Sound technologies. Each auditorium will seat guests in custom-designed leather recliners that offer 7 feet of space to lean back or kick up the footrest.

The food menu will include standard movie fare, such as popcorn and candies, plus gourmet finger foods, artisan sandwiches, and cheese.

Pricing will be comparable to the average restaurant menu, management has said. The venue will also host live-feed concerts, sporting events and more.

Movie-goers can expect to pay prices ranging from $13.50 to $19.50 for regular movies and 3D will be $22.50.
