Canceled: Taste of Laguna Niguel 2011
With the economy in a slump, the Taste has been postponed until more restaurants commit to the event.
Sorry, foodies. The Taste of Laguna Niguel has been canceled.
The event had been set for Aug. 20 at the Laguna Design Center, at Alicia Parkway and Aliso Creek Road.
“Unfortunately, we were unable to obtain commitments from a sufficient number of restaurants to have a successful Taste,” said Mary Smith, 2011 Taste of Laguna Niguel chairwoman.

Laguna Niguel has hosted two of these events, in 2007 and 2008. Both took place at the , where more than 16 restaurants, including Splashes at Surf & Sand Resort, Javier’s Cantina & Grill and , participated.
Guests enjoyed live jazz music and had the opportunity to sample different cuisine, wines martinis and spritzers.

“I attended the event in 2008. We had a fun time, and there were great selections of food and wine,” said Elizabeth Marie.
The recession after the 2008 event could be to blame for the absences of others in recent years. Since the recession, businesses have been less inclined to join the Taste, said Smith.
There is still hope for a Taste this year, though. If enough restaurants start to join the Taste, the event planners will set a new date.
“We hope to do it in the future and make it the kind of event it should be for our city,” said Smith.
According to the event’s website, organizers are looking for "restaurants, catering, specialty foods, wine, spirits and micro-brew proprietors to feature.”
