Beer Lovers: October Beerfest in Dana Point Today

Taste of Brews will feature dozens of seasonal, craft and micro-brews paired alongside cuisine from local eateries. The event benefits the Ocean Institute.

If it's October that means there must be an Oktoberkfest or beerfest about to happen, right?

Actuallly both will take place in the form of Taste of Brews today at Lantern Bay Park in Dana Point. The Oktoberfest-themed festival will feature dozens of seasonal, craft and micro-brews paired alongside cuisine from local eateries.

Admission prices range, depending on when you want to go. All admission includes unlimited craft beer tastes and food samples, along with snacks, water and more.

Taste of Brews pays homage to the passion and excitement that today’s full-flavored craft beers are generating among consumers while providing a platform to introduce new styles. One such up-and-coming beermaker is home-based Laguna Niguel brewer Great Head.  

"Events like Taste of Brews are critical for generating awareness and buzz for our brand,” said Great Head’s Josh Thiel. “They also give the community an opportunity to experience an array of top-notch locally brewed beers that this region has gained notoriety for. The location is amazing and we can't wait to sample our Black Dahlia India Black Ale, along with our Guero Raspberry Wit-bier-infused with something special just for this 'fest."

The event features many popular craft beers such as Stone, Shock Top, Blue Moon, Newcastle, Evans, Karl Strauss, Sam Adams and Pyramid, while Stella Artois is showcased in the VIP lounge.

As for the location, it's the first time the event will be held at Lantern Bay Park, which will be transformed into a fall festival featuring an "Oom Pah" band, German beers and the colors, and flavors of autumn. 

Taste of Brews’ official non-profit beneficiary is Dana Point’s .  The mission of the Ocean Institute is to inspire all generations, through education, to become responsible stewards of our oceans. 

"This looks like it is going to be a wonderful event and we are excited that the Ocean Institute has been designated as the non-profit beneficiary," said , president and CEO of the Ocean Institute.

  • Box office opens at 11 a.m.
  • VIP entry to venue begins at 11:30 a.m.
  • VIP sampling: 12-4 p.m.
  • General admission sampling: 1-4 p.m.
  • All attendees: 4-5 p.m. (cool down with live music, award ceremony, water and food—no beer.
