This week's Laguna Niguel Biz Briefs include a new pet store opening, and a new Dana Point deli that serves up big sandwiches.
Unleashed Now Open
There must be something about Laguna Niguel that attracts since we seem to have an abundance of both lately.
Now open is in the Plaza De La Paz Center, located in thelocation at 27281 La Paz Road.
The grand opening is scheduled for the weekend of July 20-22, but the store is open now and filled with all kinds of goodies for your faithful friends. From gourmet dog treats and fluffy beds to a DIY, in-store dog wash, this is the place to be for pet lovers.
The specialty pet store is owned by Petco, but in a smaller package that delivers more unique every day pet essentials closer to home, including its own Pet Deli. The deli display counter offers an expansive presentation with an assortment of fresh, frozen, raw and cooked food. There is also a special sample wall where furry friends can taste-test to find their favorite chow.
In addition, the opening of the store will cater to the community by providing pet lovers and their furry loved ones with a local, pet-friendly hangout. Unleashed by Petco will run several other gatherings during the year, including multiple adoption events aiming to unite California shelter pets with their forever homes, as well as activities such as Pug-a-Palooza, local dog meet-ups and other fun contests and social gatherings for people and pets alike.

The Real Deli
The Real Deli located at 34320 Pacific Coast Highway, in Dana Point, opened in March and is right across from in the Doheny Park Plaza.
The delicatessen is owned by Alicia Matos and managed by her fiancé Charlie Mattouk, both of whom just moved to the O.C. from Florida 9 months ago.
The Real Deli is open daily from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., and closed on Tuesdays.
"We offer a great variety of hot and cold sandwiches, breads and desserts, with breakfast served all day. The restaurant is quickly gaining a local following of regular customers; our customers are wonderful," said Mattouk. "People keep coming back more and more, and we have already added quite a few new things to our menu."
Current customer favorites include the rib eye au jus on thick cut sourdough, house smoked pastrami on rye, and smoked turkey on squaw bread.
"People also seem to love our fresh poached Yellowfin Ahi tuna salad made to order, fresh smoothies and fruit juices from scratch, and our great selection of cheeses," he said.
Mattouk said the deli is also one of several local small businesses that participate in the Five Stars Card system. By using a Five Stars Card, customers earn points toward free menu items. The deli awards one point for every $5 purchased; 4 points gets you a free soda, fresh brewed iced tea, chips, or hot coffee; 15 points gets you a free 1/4-pound sandwich, 25 points gets you a half-pound sandwich, and 50 points: they'll make you a whole cake.
