The Real Deli

The Real Deli located at 34320 Pacific Coast Highway, in Dana Point, opened in March and is right across from  in the Doheny Park Plaza.

The delicatessen is owned by Alicia Matos and managed by her fiancé Charlie Mattouk, both of whom just moved to the O.C. from Florida 9 months ago.

The Real Deli is open daily from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., and closed on Tuesdays.

"We offer a great variety of hot and cold sandwiches, breads and desserts, with breakfast served all day.  The restaurant is quickly gaining a local following of regular customers; our customers are wonderful," said Mattouk. "People keep coming back more and more, and we have already added quite a few new things to our menu."

Current customer favorites include the rib eye au jus on thick cut sourdough, house smoked pastrami on rye, and smoked turkey on squaw bread.

"People also seem to love our fresh poached Yellowfin Ahi tuna salad made to order, fresh smoothies and fruit juices from scratch, and our great selection of cheeses," he said.

Mattouk said the deli is also one of several local small businesses that participate in the Five Stars Card system. By using a Five Stars Card, customers earn points toward free menu items. The deli awards one point for every $5 purchased; 4 points gets you a free soda, fresh brewed iced tea, chips, or hot coffee; 15 points gets you a free 1/4-pound sandwich, 25 points gets you a half-pound sandwich, and 50 points: they'll make you a whole cake.
