A New Home Store, Super Bowl Tickets at Costco and a Departing Pharmaceutical Firm

It's a busy first week of the new year in Laguna Niguel with stores coming and going.

Business in Laguna Niguel starts out strong this first week of 2012 with a new home furnishings store, Super Bowl 2012 tickets available at Costco online, and the closure of a local pharmaceutical company.

Hello, Sydney's

Sydney's Eclectic Home Furnishings has opened at 28052 Camino Capistrano, Suite 112, in the former Laguna Iguana location.

Owner Sydney Schweitzer said she took over the Iguana about four months ago. She served as the store's manager as well as at the helm of Urban Renewal in San Clemente, which has also closed its doors.

Overall, Schweitzer has about 15 years of experience in the home furnishings sector. The store has a wide array of eclectic furnishings, natural and organic materials, seagrass and reclaimed woods, as well "tried and true hand-forged iron from Mexico."

"We're also known for our custom sofas and sectionals," she said. "We have hundrends of fabrics to choose from. I have a lot of clients who are now on their second and third sofas, and they come here because we've had the same vendor for years."

Schweitzer said she prides herself on being a small, local boutique business and encourages people to shop local.

"We can pretty much duplicate anything that someone sees in a large department store," she said. "If they see a sofa at Pottery Barn or another chain furniture store, we can do it here."

New Pool Store

Ezpoolz Inc. has opened at 28142 Camino Capistrano, Suite 103, where customers can find everything they need for their pool or spa.

Co-owner John Sangvera said one of the selling points of coming to Laguna Niguel was "the great access and exposure to area freeways."

The store sells a range of items including chemicals, pool pumps, filters and even to new LED lights.

Headed Out of Laguna Niguel

, a startup company that we wrote about a few months ago, announced in December that it is leaving Laguna Niguel.

The company, founded five years ago, develops treatments for hemophilia, and plans to move its corporate headquarters to Cambridge, Mass.

The move is part of its transition from a development-stage company to commercializing its products.

John P. Butler, chief executive officer of Inspiration, said in a news release, "The Boston metro area has always been a center for growth and innovation in the biopharmaceutical industry. As we move toward the launch of Inspiration's first products, including IB1001, our recombinant factor IX product for hemophilia B, it is the perfect location to establish our corporate office.  We expect the close proximity to some of the leading academic and research institutions will help attract top talent as we continue to build a world-class company focused on improving the life of individuals with hemophilia."

The company, which has financial backing from French drugmaker Ipsen SA, has two drugs in development. Inspiration’s IB1001 is for people with congenital hemophilia B; its OBI-1is being tested for patients who are resistant to traditional treatments.
