ANHS Surf Team off to a Great Start!

This Grom (rookie) Learns Surfer Speak and Surfing 101

Wow! My experince on the Surf Team is totally rad! (In surfer speak).  We go three days a week to surf at Strands and Salt Creek(aka Creek). I never imagined getting up at 5:30 a.m. to go straight to the beach and surf then run home get ready for school then hurry to Aliso Niguel!  On every other Monday we meet at the pool for conditioning. We work on holding our breath and swimming speed. We all have fun and make jokes about each other, it really feels like a team that's been together for the longest time. Many of the members of the surf team have been together for awhile but as a freshman I really feel included. On some Friday's the girl longboarding and developmental team ("groms"- which is surfspeak for wannabe surfers or beginners) meet at Doheny(aka Doho). The waves have been pretty crazy and gnarly at Salt Creek. It can be scary trying to get out in the water when Mother Nature is playing nasty tricks and throwing my board all around. When you're surfing you need to pay close attention to everything around you and use your best judgement. It's great to have more experienced team members around to give advice. Last week one of the Senior guys told me if you wipe out then it makes you a better surfer, because you know what to expect.
