The music event that defined a generation ended on Aug. 17, 1969. Where were you?

It was three full days of peace, love and, of course, good ol' rock 'n' roll in 1969, and it was called Woodstock.

And on Aug. 17, 1969, it came to an end on Max Yasgur's field in Bethel, NY.

The Woodstock music festival is typically considered by many the cultural phenomenon that embodied the hopes and dreams of a generation coming of age in the 1960s.

The organizers of the three-day event were John Roberts, Joel Roseman, Artie Kornfeld and Michael Lang. They hoped to earn enough money from the proceeds of festival to build a recording studio near the artists' hometown of Woodstock.

However, that plan didn't come to fruition, and instead they decided to have it at Yasgur's dairy farm in Bethel.

At the time of the festival, they had sold more than 186,000 tickets, according to History.com.

After the first day, they decided to let everyone in for free because the turnout was so overwhelming.
