Local Moms Attend N.B. Festival and Will Showcase Teen Drug Film Saturday

Laguna Niguel residents Jodi Barber and Christine Brant walked the red carpet at the opening of the Newport Beach Film Festival Thursday night. Their film "Overtaken" is being shown on Saturday.

Local moms walked the red carpet to usher in the Newport Beach Film Festival on Thursday evening.

Both women produced the teen doumentary called Overtaken about the prescription drug epidemic in Orange County.

"The powerful documentary is screening at the Newport Beach Film Festival on April 28 at noon. This is the newly edited version and represents a strong message of hope. For those of you who haven't seen it, it is worth watching," said Barber, whose son, Jarrod, 19, died of an overdose in 2010.

The film consists of doctors and several young adults, cheer leaders, straight A students, football players from South Orange County, telling their heartfelt stories of addiction and sends a message that it's not too late, she said.

"No scripts, just from the heart," Barber said. "You can help yourself and others. Please join us and get those you care about to come. With over 400 accidental fatal overdoses in the last four years, no one is immune to this."
