Local Couple Tied Knot on 11-11, 11 Years Ago, and Is Still Enjoying Wedded Bliss

Matt and Jenny Mitchell were married on Nov. 11, 2000, in Las Vegas. Today, they share their 11th wedding anniversary along with Veterans Day.

Today is 11-11-11.

The last time three "11s" were aligned, it was 100 years ago.

But also on this day, residents Matt, 43, and Jenny Mitchell, 46, were married 11 years ago on 11-11 and at 11:30 a.m. Needless to say, they like the No. 11.

"We got married at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas on Nov. 11, 2000, after being together for five years," said Jenny, co-owner of their local commercial general contracting company that builds restaurants and retail establishments. "We had every family member show up, many coming from all over the country ... it was a beautiful wedding. We were surrounded by so many loved ones, as we still are today."

Right, but why did they choose 11-11 to tie the knot?

"I'm not really sure, I think it was just available and we thought that was a cool date to get married on. Also, an easy one for the hubby to remember," she laughed.

Each year to celebrate their milestone they try to go back to Las Vegas or someplace fun, she said.

"We’ve even included the kids along the way," she said. "Last year, we drove up the coast for a wonderful weekend in Carmel with our daughter, and visited our son at school in Santa Barbara along the way."

The Mitchells have lived in Laguna Niguel for 13 years, and they have three children, Joey, 19, Nick, 17, and Maddy, 10.

Jenny grew up in the city and she has worked at many places over the years. Their children all went to school in Laguna Niguel (,, and ) and the oldest is now in college.

While it may be OK to share their special day with friends and family members, what about sharing the spotlight with a national holiday like Veterans Day?

"We love having it fall on Veterans Day," she said. "It's a day off because of the national holiday and we like being able to share it with all the vets. I’m a Navy brat."

And what does Matt have to say? "I think 11 years at 11-11-11 has a lucky ring to it. Hopefully, over the next 11 years the family we created, and the friends we convinced to hang out with us, will continue to bring the same happiness, good times, and success that we have enjoyed the first 11."
