Harrison Ford Pops Into Dana Point to Talk Environmentalism

The actor was a panelist Monday at "Fortune" magazine's Brainstorm Green conference.

Actor Harrison Ford turned up at the Ritz-Carlton Laguna Niguel in Dana Point on Monday at Fortune magazine's Brainstorm Green conference.

As you might expect from that title, the confab was all-environmentalism all-the-time, with assorted panels on sustainable solutions and green initiatives, and how corporations and businesses can make better efforts at being Earth-friendly.

Ford -- who's quite familiar with this part of Orange County, since he appeared in a 1965 production of John Brown's Body at the Laguna Beach Playhouse -- is vice-chair of the non-profit org Conservation International, so environmental issues are pretty important to him. As he told audience members Monday, he started becoming active in conservation issues to get away from Hollywood life:

"I became involved about 25 years ago," he said. "I suffered an unconscionable excess of resources and was looking for some way to redeem myself morally. [Coming] from the world I normally exist in, to be part of that conversation is really very stimulating for me."

Ford also bemoaned the lack of great environmentally-themed films being made these days.
