Grab & Go: Fun Things to Do This Weekend, April 30, May 1

Fun things—ranging from a wag-a-thon to a "grand prix"—abound.

Get ready to get outside and enjoy some activities that will surely put a smile on your face.  

(1)  Wag-a-Thon, Saturday, April 30,  8:30 a.m to 1 p.m.  Dana Point Harbor Island.  The 18th annual Wag-a-Thon, which benefits the ,  includes pet photos, doggy-dash races, the Bowser Bazaar and a 4K walk with your best family friend.  Admission is $30 per person and includes admission for your pets, T-shirt, goody bag, entertainment and refreshments. Admission for additional family members is $3 (limit five), and children under the age of 3 are free.  Visit petprojectfoundation.org for more information.  

(2)  Dana Point Grand Prix Free Youth Series Races, Sunday, May 1, 1 to 1:30 p.m. The races are an opportunity for families to learn about the healthy, safe and fun aspects of cycling.   Visit danapointgrandprix.com to register and for more information on the ages and schedules for each race.

(3)  Caspers Wilderness Park Nature Hike,  Sunday, May 1,  8 to 9 a.m. Caspers Wilderness Park  33401 Ortega Hwy.,  San Juan Capistrano.  Join the park rangers for a free, easy one-mile hike on the nature trail.  The trail takes visitors of all ages through grassland, oak woodland, riparian and sandy cactus shrub communities.  A variety of plant and animal life is found in these areas.  Comfortable clothing, hiking shoes, sunscreen, water and insect repellant are recommended.  Call 949-923-2210 or 949-923-2207 for more information.

  (4)  Rancho Days Fiesta,  Sunday, May 1,  11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Heritage Hill Historical Park, 25151 Serrano Rd., Lake Forest.  The annual event allows families to explore Native American and Mexican rancho traditions.  Guests will enjoy hands-on activities such as brick forming, basket weaving and gold panning, along with an electronic demonstration of traditional dances. All historical buildings in the area will be open for exploration.  Entrance fees are $4 per adult and $3 per child.  For more information, contact Heritage Hill Historical Park at 949-923-2230 or visit ocparks.com/heritagehill.

(5)  Is Your Teen at Risk? Free Community Forum,  Monday, May 2, 6 to 8 p.m. Theater 28000 Wolverine Way. The forum addresses the challenges facing teenagers and parents when it comes to drugs, driving, social media and technology.  This last of three sessions are "Teen Driving Safety" and "g and Driving."  Call 949-362-4311 for more information.
