Capt. 'Wild' Bill Wows Crowds at Dana Point Boat Show

The star of the 'Deadliest Catch' gave presentations on Friday and Saturday on boating safety.

Despite the gray skies and June gloom, Capt. 'Wild' Bill Wichrowski from the popular Discovery Channel's Deadliest Catch arrived at the a few hours before he was scheduled to give a talk on boating safety Friday afternoon to much fanfare. The bearded captain of the Kodiak turned out to be one of the most popular attractions at the Dana Point Boat Show and Green Expo. The show wraps up today at 5 p.m.

But on Friday he was greeted by a number of his fans at the front gate which brought a big smile to his face. So much so that he stopped for some photo opportunities along the way. He answered questions–ranging from spending long days with little sleep to his ex-wives–for more than an hour and continued to sign photos for his fans.

According to the show's web site,"Bill's motto is 'hard work and honesty,' though he has been known to use unconventional methods–that partly explain the nickname 'Wild'–to keep his crew going strong. While Bill has a potentially intimidating reputation, his long history as a naval engineer and boat electrician means he backs up his words with the skills to get the job done."
