33 Years Ago: 'Superman' Hits the Screen, Modern Basketball Is Invented and More

More than three decades ago on Dec. 15 the world was introduced to a superhero and "Gone With the Wind." Where were you?

Thirty years ago today in history was a busy day, according to Bio.com.

In 1978, Superman was released nationwide starring the late Christopher Reeve as Clark Kent, the caped 'Man of Steel.' Also on this day in 1939, opened, with Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh in starring roles. Rent copies of both films at and remember.

In 1891, physical education teacher James A. Naismath drafted 13 rules for a game that would later be called modern basketball. You can play a game on the courts at the local YMCA.
