Photos: Mission Viejo Prayer Day Draws 600

The city's first cross-church prayer day drew about 600 from more than 20 local Christian churches

From Los Alisos to Marguerite Parkway, the faithful flocked to the Thursday night for an evening of prayer.

More than 20 Christian churches participated in the day, which drew about 600 people.

It was the first of its kind for Mission Viejo, which has , but never a large evening gathering.

Check out photos and video from the prayer event above.

"Mark this date, tonight Pastor Mike Maiolo just made a new city tradition!" said City Councilman Dave Leckness, who was there along with Councilwoman Rhonda Reardon and Councilwoman Trish Kelley.

Maiolo, pastor of Mission Viejo Christian Church, led the event. He was accompanied by 23 other pastors who took turns asking God to bless the city, the nation, and the people gathered at the event.

"It's more than just a civic center. God is here tonight," Maiolo said.

Tim Robbins of Aliso Viejo attended the event with his four-year-old daughter. The congregant said the event sent a message about the importance of prayer.

"People don't really understand the power of prayer," he said.

Maiolo led an altar call, and Kelley was one of the first to respond, kneeling before the stage. She was soon joined by about a dozen others, including Leckness.

How's that, Charles?

To spend hours praying to an imaginary being has never been known to produce results. "The faithful..." = The non thinking. "People don't really understand the power of prayer," = It makes me feel better but I can't show any results. And, wasn't this held on government property? Is that appropriate? "Tim Robbins of Aliso Viejo attended the event with his four-year-old daughter." = "..came to brainwash his daughter...."

Charles - don't know who you are but I want you to know I am praying for you. And I am a thinking business women, wife and mother. I have seen the power of prayer first hand and the results! I pray that one day you will experience the power of prayer and the results as well. Blessings to you!

Were you praying for all the people killed last Sunday on their way to church? Or for those killed in religious conflict? Why do churches have lightning rods on them? Go ahead and pray. It has never been known to accomplish anything - it's all in your mind. But if it makes you happy, then there's no harm in it. Happiness trumps reality.

Oh, here's one for you Charles. Complete with a broken flowchart and proof that, yes, you can call a placebo a confirmation if that's how you choose to interpret a science paper or reality: http://romneymegaprayer.com/ And a live blog that covered it: http://wonkette.com/488706/romney-mega-prayer-is-real-thing-starting-right-now-just-might-work-the-livebloog Now, it would be fun if Romney wins, wouldn't it?
