Crown Valley Widening Project Wrapping Up, Opening In February

The project which began construction in July 2011 should be completed sometime next month, weather permitting, says Laguna Niguel Deputy Public Works Director.

The Crown Valley Widening Project is almost done, according to city officials.

The project which began construction in July 2011 should be completed sometime next month, weather permitting. 

When the project is completed there will be dedicated right turn lanes to the north and south I-5 freeway on-ramps and four through lanes which will connect to the existing lanes in Mission Viejo.

"The contractor, Ortiz Enterprises still needs to complete the final paving and striping on CVP and Forbes Rd., install traffic lights and a street light, install fencing and finish the landscaping and irrigation," said Nick Renn, deputy Public Works director. "Once completed this project will significantly reduce congestion and provide additional capacity to the roadway."

Also, as a reminder the southbound on-ramp and the northbound on-ramp for drivers coming east from Laguna Niguel to the I-5 Freeway on Crown Valley Parkway will be closed from 12:01 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 26 (weather permitting) to complete the final paving of both on-ramps as part of the Crown Valley Widening Project. The northbound on-ramp for drivers coming west from Mission Viejo will remain open.

Heavy traffic congestion is expected in the area and motorists are encouraged to take alternate routes. Commuters can access the I-5 freeway in both directions from Crown Valley Parkway using the following alternate routes:

1. Drive south on Cabot Road to Paseo de Colinas. Turn left on Paseo de Colinas and left again onto Camino Capistrano. Take a left onto Avery Parkway follow the directional signs to the north and southbound I-5 on ramps.

2. Drive north on Cabot Road to Oso Parkway. Turn right on Oso Parkway and follow the directional signs for the north and southbound 1-5 on-ramps.

3. Commuters travelling southbound only may access the 1-5 on-ramp from Crown Valley Parkway by driving north on Greenfield Drive and taking the 73-Toll Road to the southbound I-5 Freeway (there is no toll for this portion of the Toll Road).
