Danish Television Viewers Will Get Taste of Dana Point

Danish television producers arrived in Dana Point on Monday, September 2nd, to document some of the interesting ways Americans thrive at a real life retirement resort, according Terry Brown, Executive Director of The Fountains at Sea Bluffs. Brown says the taped visit to his community will air in a primetime episode during the fourth season of “Forever Young,”on DR1, Denmark’s most popular public service broadcast station.

According to C. Jill Hofer, Director of Public Relations for Arizona-based Watermark Retirement Communities, Danish broadcast partner Kristina Korsholm contacted her via email in July to arrange a late summer visit to The Fountains at Sea Bluffs in Dana Point, one of 32 communities managed by Watermark.

“Kristina had a hunch she’d find great examples people living with a “forever young” attitude in Watermark communities, and she further believes Danish viewers will find our cocktail parties, yoga classes and other engaging programs, which we tend to think of as typical for our communities, to be both surprising and unusual,” Hofer said. “Apparently Denmark seniors don’t have the broad array of options that we do here. Not yet, anyway.”

According to Heather Oldfield, Community Life Director for The Fountains at Sea Bluffs, the Copenhagen visitors remarked that they had never seen such a high level of luxury and resort like atmosphere in a retirement community. After shadowing resident Joan Boulter for the day and witnessing two fitness classes, a happy hour and a community barbecue, the crew departed, promising to send a link to the show when it airs in a few months. “They were pleased to see how active and happy and social everyone was,” Oldfield said.
