BLOG: Locals Turn Out and Offer Love, Support

It is now 3 weeks since our friend Bryce Halbert suddenly passed away. Although the feeling of helplessness has lifted, the sadness has now been shadowed by  the love and support that continues to surround the Halbert family.

Today was the LET THE LOVE FLOW...event that was put on by family and friends of the Halberts at Ocean Breeze Park. I arrived early to drop off some baked goods, Starbucks coffee, and puruse the selection.

This was well thought out, even so much as the women putting it on wore the same colors. It was elegant, diverse, and like the weather has been, warm and sunny. Although still not over the shock and loss of their friend, these women (and men) were full of enthusiasm and determination to make a difference in their friend's life.

There were people from all over, friends, family, parents of friends the Halbert children, teachers, neighbors, and a few people who really had no connection with the Halberts. This is what community is all about.

Some of my favorite tables included the entrance table where you could donate and recieve a "Bryce-let" which I purchased two, one for myself and one for my 9yr old. Also the lollipop garden, baked goods, and Tupperware! I just threw out the last of my Tupperware I received as wedding gifts back in 1980 and was delighted to replace them with new ones. There were other vendors too, like Arbonne. Each vendor pledging to donate a percentage to the fundraiser. 

The silent auction opened up on Thursday. A wide selection of items ranging from a stay at the Montage to a Powell's candy gift basket. I was out bid but it was fun to do counterbids and watch the proceeds soar.

Even as I went out to pick up Ballpark Pizza tonight, people recognized me and asked how the fundraiser went. Even though I don't know what the proceeds amounted to, I do know what the love did...added a large reserve that will help this family get through.
