VIDEO: Close Encounter of a Killer Whale Kind in Dana Point

Dana Wharf Sporthfishing sent in these photos and video of a killer whale caught on video Monday.

Four killer whales appeared to be more than curious on Monday when they decided to check out the folks aboard the Ocean Adventure vessel for a closer look.

According to Donna Kalez, general manager of Dana Wharf Sportfishing and Whale Watching who owns the vessel, the whales had been following a pod of common dolphin all day, but they didn't attack.

"Last season this matriline of seven whales (another daughter and her two offspring were absent today) came down from Monterey and visited the LA/Orange County area in September and December 2011, and in January and May 2012; they often brought other matrilines with them. Hopefully these mammal-eating specialists will be around for a few more days before heading back up north. Watch out, all you seals, sea lions, and dolphins between Los Angeles and Dana Point."
